I Swoon for Color

"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way."

~ Georgia O'Keefe

I know I recently was in your inbox talking about the power of color in your creative practice...but it's up again for me, so I thought I'd share.

Color affects me. It soothes, excites, and inspires me.

Color is my muse, my personal expression and a big part of my voice.

Sometimes I feel like a human mood ring (remember those rings from the 70's? the little stone in them would change color with your "mood" but more likely your body or skin temperature), swinging from bright chartreuse to deep indigo in a matter of minutes.

When I was preparing to move into my live/work loft on Alameda Point last year, I had visions of finally being able to live surrounded by my favorite colors: orange and hot pink, earthy yellow greens, turquoise.

And I made that dream come true.

Recently, the world has just been so overwhelmingly upsetting that I've been avoiding social media...and the news. And yes, I know—and am deeply grateful—that I am so privileged to be able to make that choice. And, despite my best efforts to insulate myself, I get snippets and I still have conversations daily with different people about what is happening in various corners of our troubled world...particularly the Middle East, at the moment. But, what used to be a place to connect with my people, my circle, my friends, is now a barrage of unfiltered headlines and images that not only break my heart but trigger anxiety and keep me up at night.

So, the other day, I decided to change things up. I figured I can't be the only person who is wishing to have a moment of delight in the day.

And I posted this:

Times are rough. Color makes me swoon. Post a picture of something PURPLE from your camera roll. No politics please.

The more random, the better!

This is echinops sphaerocephalus, a globe thistle, which I photographed in London at the Chelsea Physic Garden.

Two days later close to 80 people had posted something purple in my feed! It was so fun and distracting. And a real respite from the brutality around us.

The next day I posted this:

Well, yesterday’s post was so fun I’ve decided to do the whole rainbow. Will you join me?

Times are rough. Color makes me swoon. Post a picture of something BLUE from your camera roll. No politics please.

The more random, the better!

This is me (below) with my blue eyes in my fave jeans jacket and a scarf from a trip to Paris.

In less than 24 hours again close to 90 people had posted something blue in my feed!

And then I received this message:

I so love this 🌈 photo dump thing you have going on! I look forward to it

I'm curious, would you like to join me? There's two ways:

1. Friend me on Facebook and join the fun...or...

2. Send me something in an email from your photo stream that's your favorite color. It'll just be between you and me, and that's sweet too!
